Early Tools and Counting Devices
Long before modern computers, people created simple tools to help with counting. The earliest known device was the abacus, invented around 5000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia and China. The abacus used beads on rods to represent numbers and perform simple arithmetic.

The Birth of Modern Programming
One of the most important figures in early computing was Ada Lovelace, who worked with Charles Babbage. She is considered the world’s first computer programmer because she wrote a program for the Analytical Engine.
Her work showed that machines could do more than just math — they could follow complex instructions, or “programs.” Ada’s vision of computers as general-purpose machines was far ahead of her time.

The Personal Computer Revolution
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, computers began entering homes and schools. This was known as the PC revolution.
In 1975, the Altair 8800 was released and became popular with hobbyists.
In 1976, Apple was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, introducing the Apple I and later the Apple II.
In 1981, IBM released its first personal computer, starting the age of PCs in business.
